The Berlin Wall Committee

Delegates at the Berlin Wall Conference will dissect the Cold War's most symbolically potent and disputed event. The committee shall occupy the pinnacle position within the East-West Berlin division, where ideological conflicts transformed into tangible human distress and diplomatic standoffs. The examination of human rights abuses alongside East German defections will form the core of Topic A. An examination by delegates will take place regarding the GDR's citizen governance methods alongside the repercussions faced by escapees and international responses to these human rights breaches. Topic B will re-examine the Berlin Wall to assess its effectiveness and lasting impact. Delegates will examine whether this first Cold War crisis set the standard for future conflicts and what lessons can be drawn from it. This committee will push delegates to examine critically the intricacies of Cold War politics alongside power distribution dynamics and the human cost resulting from geopolitical divisions. Delegates will engage in diplomatic discussions and historical analysis to decode Berlin's transformation into a global conflict frontline city.
